Programming mini-course in Courtenay

Interested in learning to program? I’ll be teaching a free 3-week mini-course in Courtenay. Join me!

We’ll learn Javascript (the world’s most useful programming language) by making video games. This could be the first step in a career making apps, building websites, designing video games, or a million other things. Plus, it’s going to be a ton of fun!

Your Instructor

I grew up in Comox, earned a master’s degree in computer science at UBC and worked as a programmer in Vancouver for 10 years. I am now CTO of a small company that built a successful iOS/Android/web app. I’ve also been a professional programming instructor at Codecore’s coding bootcamp in Vancouver.

The Course

Starting from no programming experience, you’ll learn to program in Javascript. The course will last 3 weeks: Wednesdays 7-9pm from May 3rd to May 17th. My Tech Guys have very generously donated space for us in their Courtenay office. The course will be 100% free because I want it to be accessible to everyone. That means I am trusting you. I’m going to put a ton of effort into the course, and I expect you to to be committed and engaged without needing to put money down.

Programming is amazing. I have a ton of fun building apps, making games, programming robots and anything else I can dream up. It’s also a seriously awesome career.

Personally, my goal is to help bring more tech to the valley. We need great programmers, and this is my way to help out with that. Hopefully this will be the first of many courses I teach in the Comox Valley.

No prior programming experience required (but you’ll still get a lot out of the course if you’re a novice programmer)

18+ only for now (I’ll look into providing a course for a younger audience later)

A laptop that can connect to wifi and has a decent web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge)
